Description
Read-a-Rama programming includes taking a trauma-informed, healing centered approach. This course goes deep into trauma, childhood trauma and vicarious trauma. You'll learn about the principles of trauma-informed, healing centered care. You will also explore cultural humility and explicit and implicit bias, as well as tactics to address staff burnout. We also share how we see Read-a-Rama as a springboard for resiliency.
You'll have the opportunity to participate in discussions about childhood trauma and cultural humility.
We know this content can be heavy, so once again we've included several Mindful Minutes in this course, and end with a lovingkindness meditation.

A very great course. I learned so much about the different types of trauma and how it can manifest in life, but also about how to combat trauma with a healing centered approach. Many wonderful strategies to seek healing were shared.
This is vital training for anyone doing community work.
great!
Once again, tons of great stuff in this module <3 The first time I went through the trauma-informed training for class, I remember feeling a little out of my depth when answering the discussion questions since I didn't have any previous experience in working with kids. I got a lot of value out of hearing everyone's answers in class and learning from their examples, and I hope that the discussion boards will fulfill a similar function for people who need a few examples of some effective and appropriate approaches to these scenarios. If not, I think the training could benefit from providing a few examples in these areas :)
A wonderful opportunity to learn more about RaR, at my own pace.
So much to glean from these modules -- I would recommend watching these videos more than once, and reflecting on these topics and issues with others as you do.
I'm glad that there weren't too many 'assignments' in this course, as a lot of it is about reflection. Perhaps there is a way to encourage people to reflect on their own? There are definitely things about trauma that I do not want to share with others, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't reflect on it myself.
I loved the mindful minutes and meditation at the end.
WOW...this is a lot to digest. the mindful minutes help break up the intensity of the topic...a few nick picky things: check module #6 the 4 Rs slide for spacing, punctuation, and alignment; module #7 around one minute and 45 second--the video needs a bit of editing work; and I would like at the punctuation through the course, some listed items end with periods while others don't--they are not consistent.
Long but lots of rich information that will be useful. Good time for self reflection as well.
