Description
Books are the foundation of all Read-a-Rama programming. This course goes deep into the interactive read-aloud techniques used during camp. You'll learn how to ask critical thinking questions, what to look for in illustrations, and how to choose books for your Read-a-Rama camp library.
You'll have the opportunity to participate in discussions about building early literacy and what makes for exceptional illustrations in children's books. You will see Doc Martin demonstrate these technique in two virtual real-alouds, as well as a counselor-in-training (CIT) demonstration from a recent camp.
And to make sure you can do these skills yourself, we ask you to upload a brief video demonstration of yourself reading to children as the assignment for this course.

After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Create and ask critical thinking questions.
- Prioritize ways to use “book people” questions.
